According to Zelig Heller's Compestium of Strife, a masked challenger has shown up repeatedly throughout AA history demanding "satisfaction" with a black leather glove.
He has been appearing since at least 1657.
Guvernor Morris developed a glove phobia after a masked challenger killed a family friend.
William Flintrock escaped a masked challenger's duel and chose his weapon, the arm-wrassel, which he won, hands down. The masked challenger was obviously impressed and retired honorably with a curt bow. This was in 1963.
