The Pancakes of Pan
From Plastic Tub
The Pancakes of Pan was Paolo Grignotti's most famous work for chorus and orchestra. He included missing spaces, when those were still uncool. It is a tour de force of emblematic themes and tempting imagery, designed to "cause confusion betwixt the rhealms of the boudoir and of the inferno." (Peabody, 1955) This monumental work is rarely seen due to the massive undertaking production entails. Update: Rumour has it that a jazzier version of the opera will be staged on Broadway in 2008.
The selection presented here is extracted from the second prelude and is laid out, quite naked, in a form wholly clothed.
