A magazine by mention must exist -- and yet it doesn't. The name is generally thought to derive from the patchy skin color of Mazzistow Carrington's left hand.

Other theories claim it came from Carrington's piebald mare, Placenta Bucefalos.

Usage

Piebald is the unfortunate name of a rock group from Massachusetts.
