-- Payne 22:50, 1 Nov 2005 (EST) I've come up with a more nimble system using Template:Sidebar. This generic template lets you include all the bullet points you want (or none, for that matter). I put directions under our Help File (http://plastictub.vaporslave.com/index.php/Help/HowToMakeTemplates).
Of course, you don't have to use this at all -- you can still make templates the same way you used to, if you prefer.
-- Payne 22:28, 31 Oct 2005 (EST) It's occurred to me that we can set up templates for the templates -- in other words, we can create these generic templates that we can use for our linking sidebars. The advantages are that we won't have to keep recreating the code for the formate of the templates, plus, if we were ever to decide that we wanted to change the format of the templates, it would be fairly simple. One problem is that the generic templates will have a pre-specified number of bullets. This one for example, has 4 bullets.
I've tried to explain how to use this generic template below, but I fear my explanation is too confusing, so you're probably better off if you ignore the rest of this message and just to to Template:Comics to see an example. But for those who care to wade through my explanation, here you go.
To use this here generic template, you go to your template page and type in the following code:
{{Name of generic template|title of your specific template|bullet 1|bullet 2|bullet 3|bullet 4}}
For example, the Template:Comics code reads:
{{Sidebar|Comic Strips Gracing the Tub|[[Balloonjaw]]|[[Choco]]|[[Lil' AA]]|[[The Sunday Painters]]}}
Now that I've created this specific template, I call it up with {{Comics}}, which yields:
