Jonathan Trenchwheat
From Plastic Tub
Canadian. Born 1927 in Grimsby, Ontario. He comes in reading a book, bumps his nose, laughs, drops a poem discreetly -- no one picks it up. He writes conspirator's notes in blue journal. Moves on: receives? Boots. Form of? A crow.
"There is a bone in your ear which does not belong there!"
- Trenchwheat to Nathanael West, Hollywood, 1939.
"The muthafucka was born in a log-cabing. His Pa, an imposing lumberjack of garganuan proportions, lurked over his unhappy childhood. His Ma, a flapjack champion, simpered grievously. He was an unhappy youth and shows it in the grimaces and tics he suffers from, a kid of Tourette's, thoroughly debilitating. For all of that he is an enchanting singer, a wallabee. His clarion call ounces thru the rhetoric of space: he is temporal, and deserves to be respected as such, even if he is Canadian."
- Professor Jamal LaKwamée, "Detroit, NT 27". (Negro Time 2004) (i.e. 1977).
