Two series of this journal existed. The first was founded by Stimes Addisson and Stimso Adid in 1942 and was dedicated to Accidental Associationalist art and literature. It folded after 27 issues, all numbered 27.

Series two, also called Reticent 27, was founded by Steven Adkins and Tim Wilson in 1995. This series was dedicated to the same purpose as the original, but included a more historical perspective on the movement, which at this point was usually referred to as Associationalism.

Series two never quite got off the ground. Although having nothing to do with "R27's" cessation of public activity, several death threats were levied against contributors in the weeks following its original appearance. Tampa police made no arrests after a cursory, some might say suspiciously inadequate, investigation.
